Lesson I – What Makes A Good Teacher, A Great Teacher!?

According to one student who was asked this question; “Great teachers eat apples!” What he really meant is that great teachers are human and approachable. Study after study shows the single most important factor determining the quality of the education a child receives is the quality of his teacher. Great teaching seems to have less to do with our knowledge and skills than with our attitude toward our students, our subject, and their work. In this session we will look at the response to this question from the POV of the student and examine the qualities needed to make a good teacher a great teacher!

Lesson II – Intro to Classroom Management

Lesson III – Problem Students vs. Students With Problems?

If you feel frustrated with the behaviour issues that you have to handle, take comfort in the fact that you are not alone—handling behaviour issues comes with the job description. What is important though, is understanding that most often students who appear problematic are often students with problems and not problem students. In this session we take a close look at student behaviour and getting to the root causes of some of the negative and often disruptive behaviour portrayed by students.

Lesson IV – Reframing Classroom Management?

Effective classroom management requires awareness, patience, good timing, boundaries, and instinct. There’s nothing easy about shepherding a large group of easily distractible young people with different skills and temperaments along a meaningful learning journey. In the first two sessions our focus was on positive relations and attitudes; which are very important factors in classroom management. In this wrap-up section we look at strategies. These include positive learning environment, vigilance, clear communication, routines (procedures) and creating engaging lesson activities.
